It expanded to include branch plants and the production of aircraft parts, and fostered a company union, the Automotive and Aircraft Workers Alliance (later the Aircraft Workers Alliance). It grew during World War II due to defense contracts. After the war it entered the jet and aerospace industries. It merged in 1958 with Ramo Wooldridge Corp. to become TRW Inc. Outside activities include the National Air Races and the Crawford Auto-Aviation Collection of the Western Reserve Historical Society. The collection consists of minute books, correspondence, memoranda, financial records, newsletters, histories, and publications, the bulk of which relate to Thompson Products, Inc. and its subsidiaries during the 1930s and 1940s and bear largely upon labor management relations. Walter Nord was the president of U. S. Automatic Corporation (f. 1909) of Amherst, Ohio, a company which manufactured screw machine parts for the automotive industry. Walter Nord and his sons, Evan and Eric Nord, organized the Nordson Corporation in 1954 as a subsidiary of U. S. Automatic Corporation. The Nordson Corporation, headquartered in Westlake, Ohio, is a multinational company that designs, manufactures, and markets systems that apply adhesives, sealants, and coatings to a broad range of consumer and industrial products during the manufacturing process. The Nordson Foundation was a philanthropic organization which provided financial support primarily in the areas of public service, social problems, family services, and education. The Nord family, including Walter's sons Eric and Evan Nord, and Cleveland lawyer William Ginn, guided the foundation through 1980. In 1988 the foundation was reorganized to create the Nord Family Foundation and the Nordson Corporation Foundation. Since its inception, the Nord Family Foundation has primarily served Lorain County, Ohio, and has been based in the Lorain-Elyria area. As of 1993, the foundation was headquartered in Elyria, Ohio. Its charitable activities, however, have sometimes reached into neighboring locales, particularly Cuyahoga County and Cleveland, and touched other areas of Ohio and the nation. In addition to the foundation, the Nord family is also noted for its involvement in the development of inventions, including innovations in areas as diverse as spray painters and robotics. The collection consists of articles of incorporation, minutes of the board of trustees, policies and procedures, a mission statement, resolutions, correspondence, financial reports, contract bids and specifications, newspaper clippings, memoranda, pamphlets, publications, accounting journals, budgets, tax returns, affidavits, and materials related to projects and activities of the foundation, with grant proposals (1980-1984) compromising the bulk of the materials. Hauserman (1885-1943) who bought out part of the building supplies dealer for whom he worked and organized the E.F. Hauserman Co. in 1913. The company became a leading manufacturer of interior steel partitions and was a major defense contractor during World War II. Following the war, E.F. Hauserman's sons, Fred M. Hauserman (1909-1972) and William F. Hauserman (1920-2012) led the company, including expansion into Canada and Europe. In the mid 1970s, E.F. Hauserman Company consolidated with its principle subsidiaries to become Hauserman, Inc., In 1978 the company acquired Sunar, a Canadian office furniture manufacturer and in 1983 became Sunar-Hauserman, Inc. The company closed in 1989 due to changing economic conditions. White Foundation, all of Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Massachusetts, part of the White family which had immigrated from England ca. 1638. He moved to Cleveland in 1867. In 1876 he, his half-brother Howard W. White, and Rollin C. White (no relation) incorporated the White Sewing Machine Company. In 1899, his son Rollin Henry White invented the White steam car, put into production by the White Sewing Machine Company in 1900. In 1906, The automobile division was separated from the Sewing Machine Company as the White Company, later the White Motor Company. He and his wife, Almira Greenleaf White, had eight children; Mabel Almira Harris (wife of James Armstrong Harris), Alice Maud Hammer (wife of William Joseph Hammer), Windsor Thomas White, Clarence Greenleaf White, Rollin Henry White, Walter Charles White, and Ella Almira Ford (wife of Horatio Ford). The collection consists of individual and group portraits depicting the ancestors and descendants of Thomas H. White. The collection consists of two company histories, a detailed order record book, 1915-1927, and a daily order book, 1917-1927. Blosser was a staff writer/editor and, eventually, bureau chief for the Associated Press in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1935-1943. In his spare time beginning in 1938, Blosser conducted interviews and extensive research for a biography of Oris P. and Mantis J. Van Sweringen, developers of the exclusive suburb of Shaker Heights, Ohio and builders of Cleveland's Union Terminal, who amassed huge holdings in railroads during the 1920s. Blosser finished his manuscript in 1946, but it remained unpublished. Blosser was public relations director for the New York Central Railroad until 1956, and vice president in charge of public relations and advertising at Union Commerce Bank in Cleveland from 1956 to 1973. The collection consists of a typescript second draft of Blosser's "Untitled biography of the Van Sweringen brothers of Cleveland," a carbon copy of the same containing additions, comments and corrections by William H. Wenneman, William Barrett and William Wyer (all top officers and aides to the Van Sweringens), miscellaneous correspondence, notes, newspaper clippings pertaining to the biography, and a privately published biography of the Van Sweringens by Louise Davidson Jenks. Lockwood (1789-1860) moved from Connecticut to Painesville, Ohio, where he opened a general store, in 1835. His sons, George D. Lockwood (1830-1874) and John S. Lockwood (born 1834), continued the firm. In 1856 George moved to Davenport, Iowa and opened another store, Livingston and Lockwood. During the American Civil War he was an officer in Companies D and I of the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. His brother, Stanley B. Lockwood (1840-1884), served in Company G. of the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment and in Company K of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The collection consists of correspondence, military records, financial records, diaries, and newspaper clippings.
